The names of the players have been shortlisted for the IPL 2025 auction. 1574 players had registered their names for the IPL 2025 auction, out of which only 574 were shortlisted. The most surprising name among the players who did not appear in the final list of 574 players for the auction was Joffra Archer. There was a question in the mind as to why Archer's name was not in the auction, but no one had the exact answer. But, according to the report that has now come out, a major reason for Archer being out of the IPL 2025 auction is Team India.
You must be thinking that how can Team India become the reason for Archer's ouster? There should be no direct connection with this question to Archer's exit from the auction. But definitely in an indirect way. Cricbuzz, in its latest report, gave the reason for Archer being out of the auction and said that he is not available for IPL 2025. According to the report, the reason behind Archer's unavailability is also the desire of ECB i.e. England and Wales Cricket Board, under which it wants Archer to be completely fit for the Test summer next year.
England will have to face Team India on home soil in the Test summer next year. This will be a 5-Test series, which will start from June 20 in Leeds. The second match of the series will be held in Birmingham between 2-6 July. The third Test will be played at Lord's from 10-14 July. The third Test will be held in Manchester between 23-27 July. The last match of the series will be played at the Oval between July 31 and August 4.
According to the report, ECB wants to keep Joffra Archer fit for this series against Team India, which is also considered to be a major reason for his exclusion from the IPL 2025 auction.
This will not be the first time that Archer will miss IPL. Before IPL 2025, he was not seen in IPL 2022 and 2024 due to fitness. In 2023, he also played only a few matches for Mumbai Indians due to injury. It is clear that injury has been a big problem for Joffra Archer.
Considering Archer's injury history, ECB is in no mood to take any risk. 29 year old Archer has taken 48 wickets after playing 40 matches in IPL. He has played 68 international matches for England so far.
