There is no information on Rohit Sharma’s availability for the first Test against Australia in Perth. If Rohit is unable to come for the series opener of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the India National Cricket Team. However, India will have to decide on the opening slot. KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran are the two options, but Ravi Shastri wants to see Shubman Gill return in the opening slot.
Shastri said that Abhimanyu Easwaran has not done for India A against Australia A. He also urged the current head coach to look for clues during net sessions.
“It is not easy, but the team management has a choice. You can promote Shubman Gill in the batting order and play him as an opener. He was India’s designated opener before he decided to bat in the No. 3 slot to find a place for Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Playing XI. Easwaran and Rahul didn’t do well against Australia A.
“Gambhir will have to keep an eye on the players in the nets and watch the footwork of the players. If a player is using his feet properly, you should include him in the team for the fast and bouncy pitches in Australia,” he said on ICC Review.
During Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri’s tenure as captain and coach, the team never had a settled playing XI as the two were in the habit of changing players in overseas conditions.
