Many young players are performing well in the Indian Premier League 2024. Mayank Yadav has become a pace sensation, while Riyan Parag is hitting fifty after fifty. Ashutosh Sharma has been unstoppable in the death overs. These are only a handful of names among the big pool of players.
Parag, who is playing for Rajasthan Royals, has been the most impressive of the lot. With a change in batting slot and a matured head, the 22-year-old has become the second-highest run-getter in the 17th season. He has accumulated 261 runs in five matches at an average of 87 and a strike rate of 158.18.
The right-handed batter has hit three fifties, 17 sixes, and 17 fours. Virat Kohli leads the batting chart with 316 runs in five matches. After failing for three to four years, Parag is showing his class in the cash-rich league.
Before the IPL, Parag had a fabulous domestic season for Assam, and he has carried that form to the T20 tournament. Mohammad Kaif is pleased with the batter and wants the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee to include Parag in the Indian squad.
“He again played a magnificent knock this season. Look at his shots. Bowlers couldn’t do anything in front of him. Parag has improved a lot, and he is ready to play for India. The selectors should take a note and give him a chance in the national team,” Mohammad Kaif said.
Earlier, Irfan Pathan had said the same thing. He urged the critics to leave him alone and let the young batter play. The legendary all-rounder has predicted Parag’s inclusion in the team.
