The countdown for Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 has started. This five-match Test series will start from November 22 in Perth. Everyone except Rohit Sharma is in Australia and preparing vigorously for this series. Actually, Rohit had taken a break from Team India for the birth of his second child. His wife Ritika Sajdeh gave birth to a son late at night on 15 November. In such a situation, Rohit Sharma will soon fly to Australia. But the special thing is that another player will go to Australia with him, who is not part of the squad. It is believed that this player will be included in Team India between the series.
It is not yet clear whether Rohit Sharma will be a part of the first match or not. However, it is almost certain that he will play in the second match. According to media reports, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami will also leave for Australia for the Border Gavaskar Trophy along with Rohit Sharma. He recently returned to the field after one year. Shami also looked in very good form on his return from Ranji Trophy. However, the decision on his joining the team will be taken only after one match. That means he can be included in the squad before the second match of the series.
Mohammed Shami played his last international match during the 2023 ODI World Cup. Since then he was out of the field due to injury. Earlier this year he had undergone ankle surgery. Since then he was in the rehab camp at the National Cricket Academy. Recently, playing for Bengal team, he played against Madhya Pradesh in Ranji Trophy. In the first innings of this match, he took 4 wickets for 54 runs in 19 overs, after this in the second innings also Shami took 2 wickets for 74 runs in 18 overs. Apart from this, he also showed amazing performance with the bat. Let us tell you, NCA physio Nitin Patel was on the field for this match. The final decision on Shami will be taken only after his advice.
On the other hand, Bengal coach Lakshmi Ratan Shukla said on Shami's fitness, 'Mohammed Shami is ready for the game. He looked absolutely fine while bowling. He bowled 44 overs in two innings and never looked out of rhythm or faced any fitness issues. He came off the field with difficulty breathing.
