Sanju Samson has smashed three T20I hundreds in his last five games. In the four-match series against South Africa, he struck a ton in the first and final contests. The previous assignment against Bangladesh saw Samson completing his maiden century in the third T20I.
Former India player Ajay Jadeja hailed the 30-year-old and even put him ahead of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Rohit played 159 games for the Men in Blue and went on to amass five hundreds, a record he shares with Glenn Maxwell of Australia. Virat represented India in 125 T20Is, hitting just one fifty.
Suryakumar Yadav has accumulated four three-digit scores in 78 games. KL Rahul, who has two hundred sto his name, reached the mark in 72 T20Is.
However, when it comes to Samson, he has taken just 37 games to reach three tons in this format.
“Our legends played 150 games to score 4-5 hundreds in T20Is, but Samson has reached three tons in a short period. This shows the mindset of the new generation. They are not afraid of anything and go for their shots from the first ball of the match.
“Sanju was waiting for a chance to open the innings and he has become a different batter now. He always had the talent but that consistency was missing. Alithough he scored two consecutive ducks against South Africa, his numbers have been phenominal,” Ajay Jadeja said on Jio Cinema.
Samson started opening the innings in the three-match series against Bangladesh and hasn’t looked back since then.
