Delhi: Tilak Verma's maiden T20 International 100 against South Africa and his 107-run partnership with Abhishek Sharma in 52 balls gave India the platform for a big score and ultimately became the basis of victory. During the 3rd T20 at SuperSport Park, Centurion, Tilak Verma completed 100 runs in just 51 balls and his total of 107* included 8 fours and 7 sixes. Although Tilak made many records with this 100, but the most special one is that he is now the youngest Indian batsman (22 years and 5 days) to score a T20 International 100 abroad, against a Test country.
- Before him, this record was in the name of Suresh Raina at the age of 23 years and 156 days (vs. South Africa, 2 May 2010, T20 World Cup)
- However, the record for the youngest T20 International 100 for India outside India is in the name of Yashasvi Jaiswal at the age of 21 years 279 days (vs. Nepal, 3 October 2023, Asia Region Qualifier).
Now the records in all three formats are in their names:
Test : Sachin Tendulkar (17 years 107 days): At the age of 17, Sachin Tendulkar made his first introduction in the world of cricket with this 100. This record was made in August 1990 against England at Old Trafford, Manchester and he scored 119 runs. 68 runs were scored in the first innings of this test. Batting at number 6, he hit 17 fours in his 189-ball innings and brought the Indian innings out of trouble by making a partnership of 160 runs with Manoj Prabhakar.
ODI: Yuvraj Singh (22 years 41 days): Yuvraj Singh scored his first ODI 100 in April 2003 against Bangladesh in Dhaka (102 runs) in the TVS Tri Series. This tournament was held immediately after the ICC Cricket World Cup in South Africa. With this 100, India achieved a massive 200-run win in the match and created a record for their biggest win in ODIs till then. Yuvraj Singh's record was 102* in 85 balls which included 9 fours and 4 sixes and a partnership of 92 runs with Ajit Agarkar in just 10 overs.
T20I: Tilak Verma (22 years 5 days): Tilak Verma's 107* (56 balls) was the biggest attraction of that T20 International. That's when India scored an impressive score of 219-6 (its highest T20 score till date). Became the 12th Indian player to score 100 in T20 Internationals and the third this year, after Samson and Abhishek. Yet in this context, one cannot ignore Yashasvi Jaiswal's 100 against Nepal at Hangzhou 2023.
