Although Gujarat Titans can always get him back through RTM card, there will be no shortage of suitors for the India pacer.
Shami missed out on IPL 2024 with injury but has been a stalwart in the tournament over the years. Shami's IPL tally shows 127 wickets in 110 matches, and he has grown in statures in the last few years. Since the IPL 2019, Shami has picked up 106 wickets in the IPL, the most by any bowler in the tournament.
IPL Auction 2025: Five teams who may bid for Mohammed Shami
Punjab Kings (PBKS)
PBKS has consistently sought to strengthen their pace attack. Shami's inclusion would provide much-needed depth and expertise. After Arshdeep Singh's departure, Shami can come back to his old team and spearhead the Punjab bowling attack. He played two seasons at Punjab and picked up 39 wickets in those two years, indicative of a possible reunion, especially with Punjab's fat auction purse.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB)
Royal Challengers Bengaluru would be massively interested in Mohammed Shami. RCB released Mohammed Siraj before the auction and will be keen in replacing him with the premier India pacer. Shami's experience and class makes him an enticing choice for RCB to go after him.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK)
CSK has a history of nurturing veteran players. Shami's expertise would complement CSK's young pace attack, and he can couple up with Matheesha Pathirana for a formidable pace attack. Shami's ability to perform under pressure would make him an asset for CSK.
Delhi Capitals (DC)
DC have not kept any pacer in their retention list and would be aiming one top Indian pacer. Mohammed Shami can be the ideal replacement for them. The India star had his first big break with Delhi Capitals and may return to his old abode. With Munaf Patel as bowling coach, Shami would like to hone and sharpen his skills and the Indian speedster can take DC to the next level.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
The defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders would love to bring back Mohammed Shami at the franchise. The India pacer started his IPL journey with KKR, but didn't get many chances before leaving the franchise. With Harshit Rana already retained, Shami's arrival will complete KKR's Indian pace attack perfectly and that would be a big factor for KKR to bid for Shami in the mega auction.
