Pakistan announced on Thursday that no behind the scene diplomatic efforts are taking place with India regarding the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in the country, following their decision not to play in the neighbouring country due to security reasons.
Foreign office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch spoke about the ongoing issue between the two countries regarding the ICC tournament.
“We are not holding any back channel talks with India on the Champions Trophy and the bilateral relations,” she said.
She mentioned that Pakistan Cricket Board has more information about the arrangements and participation of the teams in the Champions Trophy.
Mumtaz further said that sports should be kept away from politics. “Sports shouldn’t be politicised.”
When questioned about Pakistan’s plans if India doesn’t change its stance, she said that Pakistan Cricket Board is in touch with International Cricket Council.
“You should ask Pakistan Cricket Board for any information and clarification on the participation of the teams.”
The BCCI has informed the ICC about its decision to not visit Pakistan for the tournament. The apex body of international cricket has urged Pakistan to explore the possibility of implementing a hybrid model.
The same formula was used during the 2023 Asia Cup, with India playing its matches in Sri Lanka while others competing in Pakistan.
