The Border-Gavaskar Trophy will start between India and Australia from 22nd November. For this series, Team India has reached Perth, where the first match of the series is to be played. The Indian selectors have given place to 18 players in the team for this tour. But experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami is not a part of this team. He was troubled by injury since last season and was not fit till the announcement of the team. However, he has now returned to the field. He has returned to the field from Ranji Trophy. Shami bowled very well against Madhya Pradesh, in such a situation he has knocked on the door of Team India for the Australia tour also.
Shami, who played his first red ball match after more than a year, bowled four spells in the first innings of Madhya Pradesh while playing for Bengal. During this, he took four wickets with four maidens in 19 overs. In such a situation, news has now come out that the Indian team, which is surrounded by difficulties, may get the services of Mohammed Shami during the challenging tour of Australia. However, before this Shami will have a big test in the second innings. The selection committee will see how he bowls in the second innings and whether he has any pain or swelling after the match being played at Holkar Stadium in Indore.
If he fulfills all the criteria then it is almost certain that Shami will join Team India before the day-night test match. Let us tell you, this Ranji Trophy match will end on 16th November and Team India will play its first match from 22nd November. If Shami goes, he will get to play a two-day day-night practice match against Prime Minister's 11. A Bengal Cricket Association source told PTI that National Selection Committee member Ajay along with NCA medical team head Nitin Patel had come specifically to watch Shami's bowling. Before the final decision is taken on Shami, feedback regarding him will be sent to selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir.
A BCCI source said, 'Obviously Shami was asked to play his game because the next round of Ranji Trophy will start only on January 23 after the end of the Test season. Therefore the selectors had only one match to check his fitness. He bowled 19 overs in several spells and also fielded most of the 57 overs. He has also bowled 90 dot balls. But he will have to bowl and field again in the second innings. Suppose he bowls 15 to 18 more overs in the second innings, then it will be a good number. But the biggest test will be whether he feels any pain again after four days. If the NCA medical team gives the green signal to his fitness then obviously he will join the team before the second Test.
