Ricky Ponting has again hit back at Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir for his comments. The problem started when Gambhir slammed Ponting for his statement about Virat Kohli’s position in the Test team. Legendary Australia batter didn’t like what Gautam said and labelled him a prickly character. Ricky was not done yet as he again roasted the former India batter, calling him “frightened” ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024.
Speaking on the podcast show ‘The Run Home with Joel & Fletch,’ Ponting said that he didn’t target any Indian batter, and if one of them does have a good series in Australia, India would get a chance to criticize him.
“I didn’t mentioned a couple of names. Gambhir is trying to throw me in the deep end and making sure if Virat and Rohit end up scoring runs against Australia, they hit back on me,” he said.
Ponting once again said that he had no intention of insulting Virat Kohli and was just trying to show concern.
“I was concerned about Virat Kohli but I also said that it would be nice if he scores runs in Australia. He has hit just three hundreds in the last five years and he would also be worried about his stats. There is a great chance for him to return to form in Australia as he loves playing over here. But nobody is talking about my praise. Gambhir went to the press and lambasted me. The hair on the back of his neck are already standing up. We have a got a bit of history and he got a chance to fire back at me,” he added.
