Latest News :- Elections for the 288-seat assembly in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase on the 20th. It is a direct contest between the ruling Mahayudhi and the opposition MVA alliance. No candidate for the post of Chief Minister has been fielded in any alliance. In such a situation, the leaders of major parties in both the alliances have their eyes fixed on the post of Chief Minister.

However, the general consensus is that Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena (UPD) in the MVA alliance and Eknath Shinde of Shiv Sena in Mahayudhi are the chief ministerial candidates. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday that the decision on the Chief Minister will be taken after the elections. Similarly, Sharad Pawar of Nationalist Congress has also commented on MVA. This shows that there is a tussle going on within the alliance regarding who will be the next Chief Minister.

In the Mahayudi alliance, BJP is contesting maximum 153 seats. In such a situation, BJP wants to make Devendra Fadnavis the Chief Minister. But Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has a different thinking. BJP made Nitish Kumar of United Janata Dal (UJD), the alliance party that won the most seats in Bihar, as its Chief Minister. Similarly, Shinde is hopeful that he will get the chief ministerial post again if Mahayudhi wins.

Similar situation prevails in MVA also. For the first time in the Lok Sabha elections, Congress got the maximum number of seats in this alliance. Due to this, Congress is targeting the post of Chief Minister for its party. NCP chief Sarath Pawar feels that if he does politics of intimidation, he will also get the post of Chief Minister. Shiv Sena's Uddhav Thackeray is also likely to do the same. Thus, will the post-election chief ministership last forever? The question has also arisen.

In the last 2019 assembly elections in Maharashtra, the BJP and Shiv Sena alliance had won. Uddhav Thackeray claimed the post of Chief Minister. BJP denied this. In such a sudden change, Devendra Fadnavis of BJP became the Chief Minister with the support of Ajit Pawar of Nationalist Congress. Ajit Pawar became Deputy Chief Minister. But due to not being able to prove majority, the government was overthrown within three days.

Subsequently, Congress, Sarath Pawar's NCP and Shiv Sena formed the MVA alliance. Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena became the Chief Minister. After two and a half years, the MVA regime was also overthrown. The reason for this was the split of Eknath led Shiv Sena. Then Eknath Shinde became the Chief Minister with the support of BJP. Bhadnavis of BJP became the Deputy Chief Minister. There have been three Chief Ministers in Maharashtra in the last 5 years. The same situation is expected in this election also.
