It takes 4-5 minutes for a common man to read and understand such a huge amount. One has to calculate zeros two-three times. One has to mentally recite four-five times units, tens, hundreds… which goes up to crores and hundred crores. But no one in Pakistan Cricket Board wants to take so much trouble. There, just showing arrogance is the greatest act of bravery. The latest development is that the Pakistan Cricket Board is adamant that if the 2025 Champions Trophy is organized then it will be held in Pakistan only. Otherwise Pakistan will not host this tournament. Recently, when BCCI told ICC that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, there was an uproar there.
The Pakistan Cricket Board informed the Pakistan government that the Indian team has refused. The Government of Pakistan advised the Cricket Board that if this is the case then it should refuse to play the Champions Trophy. Now it is very important to understand 2-3 things in this. Mohsin Naqvi, the head of Pakistan Cricket Board, is also the Interior Minister there. That means there is only one person holding two very important positions. That is why instead of moving forward after understanding the delicateness of the situation, a feeling of arrogance is emerging. But perhaps neither the Interior Minister nor the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board is thinking about how big the loss of this arrogance will be. Before moving ahead, let us tell you once again that both these posts are being held by Mohsin Naqvi.
ICC i.e. International Cricket Council gives a good amount of money to the host country for hosting the tournament. It is only with this financial amount that arrangements are made to conduct the tournament properly. According to media reports, ICC would have given 65 million US dollars to Pakistan Cricket Board for the Champions Trophy. According to Pakistani rupees, this amount is about eighteen hundred crore rupees. It is obvious that if Pakistan Cricket Board refuses to host the Champions Trophy, then this amount will go to the country which will host the tournament. This is a big loss for Pakistan. The concern about this loss increases further when you come to know that in the past, Pakistan Cricket Board has spent about thirteen hundred crore rupees in repairing the stadiums of Lahore, Karachi and Rawalpindi.
Recently, Mohsin Naqvi was openly telling the media there that these three stadiums have now become almost new stadiums. If the Champions Trophy is not organised, what will happen to the stadium built at a cost of Rs 1300 crore? At the same time, this amount will also be a burden for Pakistan. Because in case of not holding the Champions Trophy, the Rs 1800 crore received from ICC will not be available. In an ideal situation, Pakistan could have saved around Rs 500 crore from the money received from ICC even after the cost of repairing the stadium and could have organized the Champions Trophy in a grand manner. Let us also know one interesting thing that the total sports budget of Pakistan is Rs. 1900 crores.
Pakistan Cricket Board has asked ICC to ask BCCI why the Indian team will not go to Pakistan? While asking this question, Pakistan Cricket Board perhaps forgets that ICC has no power of its own. ICC is the organization governing cricket around the world. Whose strength is its member countries. That means the strength of the member countries is its strength. Now, if the estimated 80 per cent of ICC's income comes from India, then India will be the only country there. Apart from this, from December 1, current BCCI Secretary Jay Shah will take over the responsibility of Chairman in ICC. All this is already decided, yet those who show false arrogance in Pakistan are making big noises. As far as the reason behind India not going to Pakistan is concerned, India's stand is not new.
The Indian government has been saying earlier also that the Indian team will not go to Pakistan until the promotion of terrorism in India from Pakistani soil is stopped. Last year also during the Asia Cup, Pakistan Cricket Board had to face defeat. Pakistan also got the hosting rights of 2023 Asia Cup but after India's refusal, the tournament was organized on hybrid model. The Indian team played its matches in Sri Lanka. At that time Jai Shah was the head of the Asian Cricket Council. Not much has changed since then. The strength of BCCI has only increased further. It is for Pakistan to decide whether it says 'yes' to the tournament on the hybrid model or puts the burden of crores of rupees on itself along with being out of the tournament. And yes, don't forget that ICC's withdrawal from hosting the tournament will have some other effects as well. ICC will also take strict action. At present, the situation is such that even if the Indian team does not go to Pakistan, Pakistan gets to host some big tournaments every two years, otherwise this trend may not end this time.
