Former Indian Cricketer Munaf Patel was named as the bowling coach of Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025 season. Munaf Patel was a member of the Indian squad that won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 2011 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy.

Munaf Patel who announced his retirement from professional cricket in 2018, will be taking on the high-profile coaching duties for the first time in his career.

Munaf comes in as the replacement for James Hopes and is going to be joining the head coach Hemang Badani along with other Delhi Capital staff members for the next season.

After a dreadful outing in the last season, Delhi Capitals underwent massive alterations as the franchise parted ways with their long-standing head coach Ricky Ponting and also released their captain Rishabh Pant and many other star players.

Right after Ricky Ponting’s removal, Hemang Badani was appointed as head coach of Delhi Capitals for the next two seasons. Apart from naming a new head coach, DC also made another announcement where Venugopal Rao replaced Sourav Ganguly as the Director of Cricket for the Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025 season.

Patel played a key role in India’s famous 1-run victory against South Africa in January 2011. Munaf was awarded the Man of the Match performance for his 4/29 off nine overs, taking the final wicket of Wayne Parnell to lead India to a 1-run victory. The victory also marked India’s first against South Africa in South Africa since 2003.

Apart from international experience, the fast bowler also featured for various franchises in IPL. Munaf played in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Lions, taking 74 wickets in 63 innings.

Delhi Capitals will enter the auction room with a purse of INR 73 crore after retaining Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel.
