Mohammed Shami is finally returning to action with a stint with Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy 2024+25. He would play his first match after 360 days on Wednesday, November 13. The speedster was injured during the 2023 ODI World Cup but continued to play for the Men in Blue. He underwent surgery on his ankle but his recovery took a long time.

He was on the road to recovery and was confident of playing in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024, but he suffered another injury setback when his knee was swollen during one of the nets sessions at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.

He was not considered for the five-match series against Australia. However, if he bowls well and remains fit during the Ranji Trophy matches, he may play in a couple of Tests Down Under.

He took to social media to give an update on his much-awaited return.

“”Back in Action” 360 days is a long long time!! All set for the Ranji Trophy. Now back on the domestic stage with the same passion and energy. Huge thanks to all my fans for your endless love, support, and motivation,– let’s make this season memorable,” he wrote on X.

Team India’s fast bowling unit has looked clueless in his absence. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, the rest of the pacers have been unable to leave a long-lasting impact. Mohammed Siraj lost his form, while Akash Deep bowled well in patches.

Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Siraj and Prasidh Krishna are the genuine fast-bowling options in the BGT in Australia.
