Australia captain Pat Cummins attended British Rock band Coldplay’s concert on Saturday, November 10, as the Men in Yellow lost the three-match ODI series against the visiting Pakistan side. Cummins’ wife Becky shared a picture from the concert on social media and wrote, ‘Excitement levels are high.’
Cummins, along with several other big players, was rested from the final fifty-over contest to prepare for the five-match Test series against India, which starts on November 22 in Perth.
Josh Inglis led Australia, and the hosts made five changes to their XI. Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Josh Hazlewood were rested.
However, the decision back-fired as the ODI World Champions lost the third contest by eight wickets, with Pakistan winning their first ODI series in Australia since 2002. Australia were dismissed for 140, with fast bowler Sean Abbott scoring 30 off 41. Shaheen Shah Afridi (3/32) and Naseem Shah (3/54) were clinical with the ball, while Haris Rauf (2/24) took crucial wickets.
Pakistan completed the chase in 26.5 overs, with Saim Ayub (42 off 52) and Abdullah Shafique (37 off 53) adding 84 runs for the first wicket. Babar Azam (28* off 30) and Mohammad Rizwan (30* off 27) completed the formalities. Former captain Michael Clarke slammed the team management for resting big names.
“There is a big gap between the last ODI against Pakistan and the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. All the big stars who are part of the Test team should have played against Pakistan. If Australia had won the first two games, the situation would have been different, but you can’t rest your players when the series was on the line,” Clarke said on the Big Sports Breakfast radio show.
“We don’t care about one-day internationals, and that’s why the fans are not turning up. I feel Australia had no problem in losing the series to Pakistan. I understand the workload management, but it was a fifty-over game, and they are going to bowl more than that in training,” he added.
Meanwhile, Pakistan and Australia will lock horns in a three-match T20I series starting on November 14 in Brisbane.
