Latest News :- Referee Marais Erasmus has said that England's victory in the 2019 World Cup and winning the World Cup for the first time was due to his big mistake. The match, in which he and Kumar Dharmasena officiated, gave rise to several controversies. First of all, it was the umpire's mistake that the match was tied. When both the teams were tied in the second Super Over, there was a lot of criticism, jokes and taunts about declaring England the champion on the basis of the number of boundaries.
Meanwhile, match referee Marais Erasmus has now admitted that it was a big mistake on our part to give 6 runs instead of 5 for an over throw at a crucial time when England were chasing the target. Ben Stokes and Adil Rashid never completed the second run. He never finished the race. By then Ben Stokes was batting and reached the boundary which was a major reason for the match being tied. Marais Erasmus, now performing sun salutations after losing his eye, said it was a big mistake by the referee.
“The morning after the World Cup I opened the door of my hotel room. I was going to have breakfast. Kumar Dharmasena opened the door of his room at that very moment and said to me, 'Did you see that we made a big mistake yesterday?' Then I realized my big mistake. But when that incident happened on the field, we gave away 6 runs. I mean, Adil Rashid and Ben Stokes didn't even realize that we were telling each other it was 6 runs 6 runs. This is a big mistake.” Marais Erasmus said.
According to the rules, one run and one over throw meant 4 runs and a total of 5 runs should have been given. When Guptill threw, Rashid did not cross and Ben Stokes also did not cross. Rule number 19.8 states that runs completed plus overs are runs. England was successful in equalizing with these 6 runs. It is noteworthy that the game went till Super Over and then another miscalculation made England the world champion.
