India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav defended Test skipper Rohit Sharma after the sub-continent team suffered the most embarrassing defeat in red-ball series against New Zealand. SKY mentioned that he learnt about staying balanced in the highs and lows from Rohit .
Speaking to the journalists on the eve of the first T20I in Durban, Suryakumar Yadav was asked about Rohit Sharma after the recent defeat against the Kiwis.
“You win some, you lose some in sports. Everybody wants to win but it doesn’t happen everytime. I have learnt this from Rohit Sharma. It is important to maintain balance in life. I have never seen him changing after good and bad times. I have seen him grow as a player and leader,” Suryakumar Yadav said.
“A leader defines the style of play. A captain wants to win every match but a leader defines how a team should play in a particular format,” he added.
The national selectors announced a young squad for South Africa. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah will be heading to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“I keep noticing Rohit Sharma and I have played with him in IPL. He handles pressure well and treats everyone equally. The way he talks to the bowlers and other members of the team is inspiring.
“I try to follow him. When I am not playing, I try to spend time with my teammates. I think these small things help on the field,” he added.
