After a remarkable comeback to secure a place in the IPL 2024 playoffs, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fell short in the Eliminator, losing to Rajasthan Royals. Heading into the upcoming auction, RCB has retained Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal, aiming to strengthen the squad around these core players to make a deeper run next season.
Yuzvendra Chahal played a pivotal role in Royal Challengers Bangalore's lineup from 2014 to 2021, consistently delivering impactful performances. However, he was released ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction, after which Rajasthan Royals secured his services.
"The good news is we still have Virat. And we didn't spend too much on the retentions. There's a lot in the bank still, which I am very happy about. Let's get Yuzi (Chahal) back at RCB where he belongs. He should have never left," De Villiers said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
In his debut season with Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022, Yuzvendra Chahal clinched the Purple Cap as the tournament's highest wicket-taker. He currently holds the record as the all-time leading wicket-taker in the IPL, with 195 wickets across 160 matches.
Yuzvendra Chahal played a key role in helping Rajasthan Royals reach the playoffs in both IPL 2022 and IPL 2024, including a memorable run to the final in 2022. Despite his contributions, the franchise opted not to retain him ahead of the upcoming season.
In addition to Yuzvendra Chahal, AB de Villiers recommended that Royal Challengers Bangalore consider pursuing Kagiso Rabada, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ravichandran Ashwin at the upcoming IPL auction.
"My four priority players are Yuzvendra Chahal, Kagiso Rabada, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Ravi Ashwin. We can make a plan with the rest of the money we have left in the auction. If you can't get Rabada, I get hold of Mohammed Shami," De Villiers suggested.
