Indian all-rounder Jalaj Saxena entered record books during the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024-25 match between Kerala and Uttar Pradesh at the St Xavier’s College Ground, Thumba, Thiruvananthapuram on November 6.

He was magnificent with the ball after Kerala captain won the toss and decided to field first. He took five wickets as Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 162. He took the scalps of Aryan Juyal, Madhav Kaushik, Nitish Rana, Siddarth Yadav, and Piyush Chawla.

With Rana’s dismissal, Saxena completed 400 wickets in the Ranji Trophy. He is the 13th bowler to achieve the record. Last week, he completed 6,000 runs in first-class cricket during Kerala’s game against Karnataka. He is the first cricketer in the history of the Ranji Trophy to complete the double of 400 wickets and 6000 runs. Last year, Saxena become the fourth Indian cricketer to amass 9000 runs and 400 wickets across formats in domestic cricket. Vinoo Mankad, Madan Lal, and Parveez Rasool are the other three.

Saxena hasn’t played for India despite performing well in domestic cricket. He started his domestic cricket career with Madhya Pradesh in the 2005-06 season and was with the team until 2016. He then moved to Kerala.

Saxena was with Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Delhi Capitals but didn’t get a game. Punjab Kings bought him in 2021 and allowed the player to play in just one game.
