Indian National Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer has given a fresh selection headache to the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee after his sensational performance for Mumbai in the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2024. The 29-year-old, who was ignored for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, completed back-to-back hundreds after he scored a ton against Odisha at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy.

Iyer ended his three-year wait for a first-class ton when he amassed 142 runs against Maharashtra. However, he missed the next game against Tripura due to personal reasons. Iyer returned to Mumbai’s squad for Odisha’s contest and celebrated his comeback with a hundred.

Iyer dominated the rival bowlers and reached the three-figure mark in 101 balls. This was Iyer’s 15th first-class century.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi managed 92 runs for the reigning Ranji Trophy champions. Captain Ajinkya Rahane recorded a golden duck and opener Ayush Mhatre was dismissed after scoring 18 runs. However, Iyer and Siddhesh Lad added 150-plus runs.

Iyer hasn’t played Test cricket for India since the home series against England earlier in 2024. His previous first-class ton came for the national team against New Zealand during the Kanpur Test in November, 2021. The two hundreds have comes at a right time for Iyer, who was struggling since the start of the domestic season.
