Delhi: Former Australian opener David Warner has sought clarity from Cricket Australia (CA) on the controversy over changing the ball on the last day of the first unofficial Test played in Mackay.
In his reaction to this controversy, Warner said, “The final decision has to be taken by Cricket Australia. I think CA hushed up this matter quickly because the Indian team is about to come here. However, I feel that if the umpires feel that something is wrong, I am sure that some further action will be taken. The umpire or match referee should answer all questions.”
He also said, “The match referee should talk to his staff i.e. the umpires. If they agree with the umpire's decision, they should support it. CA should issue a clear statement in this matter. “I have not seen any statement regarding this from CA till now.”
What is the matter?
This incident happened at a time when Indian players, especially star wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan, were very angry with the umpires after India was given the new ball. In a voice captured on the stump microphone, umpire Shaun Craig was heard saying that there was a scratch on the previous ball, while Kishan termed the decision to change the ball as 'stupid'.
