New Delhi: Former India skipper Virat Kohli was under the radar for his place in the upcoming T20 World Cup which will be played later this year in USA and West Indies. The 35-year-old is currently playing in Indian Premier League where he is featuring for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He scored a century in the last IPL outing against Rajasthan Royals. Kohli remained unbeaten on 113 off 72 balls to help RCB post 183-3 in 20 overs.

Kohli created a forgettable record with his (100 off 67 balls) recent century as that was the joint-slowest ton in the history of IPL. Manish Pandey scored a century in 67 balls to notch up the slowest ton against Deccan Chargers back in the IPL 2009.

After that knock critics started slamming modern India great for his strike rate but he was the only batter who scored runs and he was seen risks and playing aggressive cricket in cash-rich league. Even, Kohli is currently the highest run-getter of the tournament.

According to a report filed by Cricbuzz, Kohli is expected to retain his place in the Indian T20 squad for the ICC event later this year. Even though Kohli’s strike rate was questioned in the IPL 2024, the report suggested that there was no way Kohli would be left out of the World Cup squad. In the first five IPL games, Kohli batted at a strike rate of 146.29 as an RCB opener. The 35-year-old is the leading run-getter at the IPL 2024.

The ninth edition of T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to start from June 04 and will be played in the USA and West Indies. India will play their opener clash against Ireland on June  05 and team India will play all their matches in USA.
