Australia and Pakistan have announced their playing 11 for the first of three-match ODI series, scheduled to be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne on Monday (November 4).
Australia captain Pat Cummins has confirmed that rising star Jake Fraser-McGurk will open the batting alongside Matthew Short in the series opener as the duo replace the absent Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head. All-rounder Aaron Hardie also gets a spot in the Australia playing 11, while Sean Abbott gets the nod to fill in for New South Wales teammate Josh Hazlewood, who is playing the ongoing Sheffield Shield match against Queensland in Sydney. Cummins, Abbott and Mitchell Starc will be the speciallist pacers, while Hardie will provide support as the fourth seamer. Adam Zampa will be the lone spinner, but will receive support from the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Short. Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and wicketkeeper Josh Inglis, make up the eleven for the home side that is coming into the match on the back of a 3-2 away series win against England. Pakistan, on the other hand, have handed Kamran Ghulam a chance to play his second ODI, having last played in the format in January 2023. Mohammad Rizwan will don dual roles as skipper and wicketkeeper-batter. Saim Ayub and Abdullah Shafique will open the batting for the visitors with Babar Azam, Rizwan and Ghulam making up the top five. Vice captain Salman Ali Agha will be the spin-bowling all-rounder, while Muhammad Irfan Khan earns his first ODI cap. Shaheen Afridi will lead the four-man pace attack that also includes Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf and Mohammad Hasnain as Pakistan play their first ODI since last year's World Cup.
