Tristan Stubbs slams maiden Test ton, dominates Bangladesh bowlers in Chattogram

New Delhi: Tristan Stubbs showcased his class at the topmost level by smashing his maiden century in Tests during on the first day of the second Test match between South Africa and Bangladesh in Chattogram on Tuesday.
Stubbs took the Bangladeshi bowlers to the cleaners as he smashed six boundaries and three massive sixes in his hundred. Opting to bat first, South Africa lost the wicket of skipper Aiden Markram early on in the innings for 33 runs, paving way for Stubbs to join in Tony de Zorzi on the crease. Zorzi and Stubbs then added together a massive 201 runs for the second wicket to devastate any attempts made by the Bangladesh bowlers to control the contest and stand ahead. Zorzi, Stubbs smash hundreds While Zorzi was unbeaten on 141 runs when stumps were called on Day 1, Stubbs lost his wicket before day end on 106 off 198 deliveries. While the former's century received equal applauds, Stubbs' hundred was recognised more for being the maiden in the longest format of the game. Till today, Stubbs was considered as a player fit for the T20I and ODI format but he proved his prowess in the longest format of the game as well by getting to his century maintaining a strike rate of over 50.   At stumps, the visitors were 307/2 in 81 overs with Zorzi unbeaten on 141 runs and David Bedingham unbeaten on 18. The Proteas would be eyeing a score of 500-plus on the second day before declaring their innings. Bangladesh will have to come up with a remarkable bowling effort on the second day in Chattogram to control the visiting side. South Africa would be looking for series sweep after winning the first Test match in Dhaka by 7 wickets while Bangladesh would aim to clinch a victory in this one to level the two-match series.
