Prithvi Shaw posted a four-word message on social media after Mumbai dropped him from their team for the Ranji Trophy game against Tripura. According to reports, the 24-year-old was not regularly reporting for practice sessions and was also overweight.

“Need a break, thx,” Shaw wrote with a smiling emoji. The selection panel of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) decided to teach him a lesson as senior players Ajinkya Rahane, Shardul Thakur, and Shreyas Iyer reported regularly for the nets.

His body contains 35 percent fat. Captain Ajinkya and head coach Omkar Salvi were miffed with the batter. Despite getting out cheaply, he didn’t take the training seriously.

Off-field issues and injuries have marred Shaw’s career. After scoring a hundred in his debut Test against the West Indies, he failed to cement his place due to poor form and his attitude problem.

Former Australia player Ricky Ponting, who worked with Prithvi Shaw at Delhi Capitals until the previous IPL season, also spoke about the problems hampering the batter’s progress. The franchise is likely to release him ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

He has been a part of five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for the national team. He managed 7 and 12 against Baroda and 1 and 39 not out against Maharashtra in the two Ranji Trophy 2024-25 matches so far.
