Delhi Capitals are preparing for the upcoming IPL 2025 season with a cautious approach towards their retention list, hoping to build upon last year's mid-table finish.
According to a report by PTI as covered by MyKhel, DC are set to retain only three players for the upcoming season. The players who will still be a part of the Delhi Capitals set-up next year are captain Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. The reported retention list shows the faith that Delhi Capitals are showing on their old guard. Skipper Rishabh Pant has impressed at the help despite failing to challenge for the title so far, boasting a stunning 75% win percentage at their home ground. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have been solid performers for their team in the IPL, leading their bowling attack. IPL 2025: Delhi Capitals may not retain Key Overseas Players However, a major surprise has been the absence of any overseas players in the Delhi Capitals retention list for IPL 2025. DC had several high-profile foreigners in their squad last year, including David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, and Anrich Nortje. Their exclusion will probably be because of their perceived underperformance in IPL 2024, especially considering the high salaries demanded by overseas players. Fans will be interested in seeing which foreigners will be targeted by DC to replace their outgoing players, including using their Right to Match (RTM) card to buy back youngsters like Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs. IPL 2025 Auction: How Much Money Delhi Capitals Can Spend? As per the latest IPL 2025 Retention Rules, the three retentions will cost Delhi Capitals ₹43 crore. Of that, Rishabh Pant, being the first retention will cost ₹14 crore. Axar will set DC back by ₹13 crore, while Kuldeep will cost ₹11 crore. Since the transfer budget of IPL clubs was increased to ₹120 crore from the 2025 mega auction, it will leave DC with a remaining transfer budget of ₹77 crore, which is a competitive purse to get their targets. However, all of this is still based on media reports, as the final retention list is set to be confirmed by IPL clubs by October 31. Their approach at the mega auction will be crucial as they will look to bounce back after a disappointing sixth-place finish in IPL 2024.
