After losing to New Zealand, the Indian team took a surprising decision. Before the Pune Test, BCCI suddenly included star all-rounder Washington Sundar in the Indian team squad on Sunday 20 October. He recently played an innings of 152 runs against Delhi in the Ranji Trophy and described himself as a top-order batsman. Apart from this, he also took 3 wickets. But suddenly what happened was that Team India hurriedly called him in the squad for the next two matches. Actually, it was Gautam Gambhir's idea to include him in the team. He convinced the selectors for this.

Joined the team for these reasons

The start of the Test series against New Zealand was very bad. The Indian team had to face defeat in the very first match. The batting was a complete failure in the first innings of this match. In the second innings also, India lost 7 wickets in the last 54 runs. On one hand, Shubhman Gill is recovering from his neck problem, while on the other hand, Rishabh Pant has a knee injury. Apart from this, KL Rahul is going through bad form. According to the Indian Express report, the selectors and Gambhir himself were very worried about all these things before the second Test match to be held in Pune. This is the reason why Sundar has been included in the team.

The fans were also surprised by the inclusion of Sundar in the team despite Akshar Patel. Both are left arm spinners and bat with the left hand. But the head coach of Team India believes that the option of a finger spinner with batting ability in Pune can prove beneficial for India. Therefore, he along with his team management convinced the selectors for Washington Sundar. Let us tell you that Gambhir had recently given him a chance in the T20 series against Bangladesh. Before this, he was also a part of the ODI team on the Sri Lanka tour.

Return to test after 3 years

Washington Sundar has been a continuous part of the Indian team in T20 and ODI. But he has returned to the Test team after about 3 years. He will be seen with Team India for the first time since 2021. He played the last Test against England in Ahmedabad in March 2021, in which he scored unbeaten 96 runs along with taking 2 wickets. Before that, he had also performed brilliantly on the Australia tour. Let us tell you, Sundar, who made his Test debut against Australia in 2021 under the captaincy of Virat Kohli, has been able to play only 4 Test matches so far. During this period, he scored 265 runs at an average of 66 and also took 6 wickets.
