Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant were the reasons why India managed to put New Zealand on the park for the second innings. With a deficit of 356 runs on the basis of the first innings, the hosts could have lost the Test much earlier, but the two young players made sure the home team put up a big score on the board in the second essay after getting dismissed for 46 runs.

Sarfaraz, who scored a duck in the first chance, amassed 150 runs in the second innings. Rishabh accumulated 99 runs, and the two shared a big partnership.

However, the remaining batters couldn’t carry after the two set batters were dismissed, and the Kiwis never tested the target of 107 runs. After an eight-wicket defeat in Bengaluru, former India player Parthiv Patel hit out at Sarfaraz and Rishabh for not carrying on after being set.

“Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant were set, and one of them should have carried on in the second innings. They knew that a new ball would do a bit for some time, but instead of seeing that through, they went for the shots, and New Zealand bowlers managed to take their wickets.

“It opened the gates for the Kiwis bowlers and the remaining batters couldn’t carry on and the team suffered the second batting collapse in a game,” Parthiv Patel said on JioCinema.
