India made history on Day 3 of the first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The subcontinent team became the first team to slam 100 sixes in Tests in a calendar year. The subcontinent team surpassed the record held by England, which hit 89 maximums in 2022.

After conceding a lead of 356 runs, India reached 409/4 in their second innings. Sarfaraz Khan scored 150, while Virat Kohli was dismissed after scoring 70. Earlier, skipper Rohit Sharma accumulated 52 runs. Rishabh Pant was unbeaten on 90.

India have struck 102 sixes in Test cricket in 2024. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have slammed 29 and 16 sixes for the India National Cricket Team in five-day games this year. England have struck 68 sixes so far in 2024.

Earlier, India were bundled out for 46 on Day 2, and the Kiwis responded with 402, with Rachin Ravindra (134), Devon Conway (91), and Tim Southee (65) helping the Kiwis to take a lead of 356.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (35) and Rohit added 72 runs for the first wicket.
