The fourth day of the first Test between India and New Zealand saw the hosts posting a total of 462 runs in the second innings. With this, Tom Latham and Co. only require 107 runs to end their 36-year long wait to claim a win on Indian soil.
In the ongoing first Test between India and New Zealand, India resumed their batting on 232 for three wickets as came out to bat with Sarfaraz Khan at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. As the cricketing action unfolded, Sarfaraz Khan recorded his maiden Test hundred. The batter reached the milestone in 110 balls. Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, came up with a brilliant fifty. Pant was just about to complete his century, when a catch by Ajaz Patel on a Tim Southee delivery, forced him to walk back. However, owing to his brilliant 99 runs and Khan's majestic 150, India recorded 438 runs for six wickets at tea.
After Pant's dismissal, no batter could do much and Kiwi pacers once again triggered batting collapse. While KL Rahul could only record 12 runs, Ravindra Jadeja contributed five runs. R Ashwin, who did wonders in the Bangladesh series, got out off a Matt Henry delivery for 15 runs. Kuldeep Yadav remained not out for five runs while Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj went back after a four-ball duck and a two-ball duck. The Indians were bundled out for 462 runs in 99.3 overs. The Kiwis were in need of 107 runs as skipper Latham and Devon Conway looked forward to an unbeaten partnership for the first wicket. However, just four balls down the innings, umpires called off the day early due to a dark cloud cover over the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
