After Babar Azam left the white-ball captaincy for the second time in 10 months, the PCB told the selection committee to find a suitable replacement. And now Mohammad Rizwan is set to replace the former skipper.

The apex body of Pakistan cricket will soon make the announcement, with an upcoming tour of Australia, Zimbabwe, and South Africa in mind.

Rizwan is the preferred candidate due to his record in domestic cricket and the Pakistan Super League.

In recent meetings between PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the national selectors, and white-ball head coach Gary Kirsten, the wicketkeeper’s name was finalized.

The selectors will announce the white-ball team by the weekend. The team is set to depart for Australia after the third Test against England.

“He is a consistent performer ans has been playing for Pakistan for a long time. His track record in also impressive and he is a natural choice to replace Babar Azam,” a source within the PCB said.

The selection panel members, Aaqib Javed, Azhar Ali, and Aleem Dar, have already spoken to Rizwan.

The Men in Green will compete in nine ODIs and nine T20Is in three countries, followed by two Tests in South Africa, before returning to Pakistan.
