He had made this clear as soon as he became the coach. Pujara and Rahane have played mostly Test cricket and both players have played very few international T20 matches.

Ajinkya Rahane's cricket career
Right-handed opener batsman Ajinkya Rahane has also played a lot of cricket in his career. He has played 85 test matches for India, in which he has scored 5077 runs. He has also played ODI and T20 matches, in which he has scored 2962 and 375 runs respectively. Rahane's best average has been in first class cricket. He has played 193 matches in which he has scored 13574 runs at an average of 45.39.
