IPL 2025 Retention: With the deadline date for submitting the IPL 2025 retention lists approaching, five-time champions Mumbai Indians have almost zeroed down on four players who they will retain ahead of the mega auction.
Not only have Mumbai Indians made up their mind to retain four specific players, they have also decided upon the name of the player who will be tried to be bought back at the IPL 2025 auction. Also, the management has also decided the player for whom the Right To Match (RTM) option will be used. As per a report by the The Indian Express, Mumbai Indians are set to retain captain Hardik Pandya, former captain Rohit Sharma, India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadava, and Test team vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah. Mumbai Indians would be aiming to buy back Ishan Kishan at the IPL 2025 mega auction likely to be held in November, and used the RTM option for hard-hitting Australian batter Tim David. The franchise can also look to buy back their young talents Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera. Earlier reports had linked Rohit Sharma's name to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Suryakumar Yadav's name to the reigning champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Mumbai Indians endured a forgettable campaign last year as they finished last under Hardik Pandya, who was booed even at their home ground for taking over the Mumbai Indians captaincy from Rohit Sharma. Rift in the camp was also reported. Mahela Jayawardene has been re-appointed as the head coach of Mumbai Indians and India's former bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has also been roped. As per the latest rules released by the ICC governing council, franchises can retain six players - maximum five capped and two uncapped. The first player to be retained will get Rs 18 crore, second for Rs 14 crore, third for Rs 11 crore, and fifth and sixth for Rs 18 crore and Rs 14 crore respectively. An uncapped player can be retained for Rs 4 crore. Teams can retain all six players before auction or use the RTM auction later to fill the spots.
