New Delhi: Indian women's cricket team wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh will miss the upcoming ODI series against New Zealand as she is preparing for her 12th grade board exams.
Due to this, Richa has been granted leave for the series. Richa, who joined the Indian team at the age of 16 in 2020, has since become a regular presence in the squad. The BCCI revealed the reason for her exclusion during the team announcement. The series is set to begin with the first ODI on October 24, all matches taking place at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium, according to the ICC. Meanwhile, Star Indian batter Harmanpreet Kaur will continue as captain despite the team's early exit from the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup, as the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series was announced on Thursday. Malayali spinner Asha Sobhana is also unavailable due to injury, while Pooja Vastrakar, who suffered an injury during the tournament in the UAE, has been rested for this series. The squad sees maiden call-ups for Tejal Hasabnis, Saima Thakor and Priya Mishra. The Indian women's team was unable to qualify for the knockout stages of the ongoing ICC Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE, finishing third in Group A with two wins and two losses. After suffering a 58-run defeat to New Zealand in their opening match and narrowly losing to Australia on Sunday, they failed to progress, despite victories over Sri Lanka and arch-rivals Pakistan. From Group A, Australia (four wins from four matches) and New Zealand (three wins and one loss) advanced to the semifinals, while the West Indies and South Africa secured their spots in Group B.
