Virat Kohli is known for his excellent fitness. His agility on the field often puts the opposing teams in trouble, whether it is in fielding or batting. Apart from excellent catches, amazing run outs and stopping many runs, he often converts one run into two runs by his fast running while batting. This is also always praised but cricket is such a game where a player's strength becomes his weakness or proves fatal for him. Something similar happened in the Bengaluru Test match between India and New Zealand, where Virat Kohli, after playing an excellent innings, was out on the last ball of the day and the opportunity to score a century slipped from his hands. Unknowingly, his agile style also proved to be a reason for this.

Out on the last ball after a strong innings

On the second day of this test match being played at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Team India surrendered for just 46 runs in its first innings. Kohli could not even open his account in that innings. New Zealand, while batting strongly in its first innings, scored 402 runs and took a lead of 356 runs. In such a situation, Team India seemed to be in trouble but in the second innings the Indian batsmen made a tremendous comeback, in which Virat Kohli also played an important role. After captain Rohit Sharma's half-century, Virat along with Sarfaraz Khan took charge of the innings and batted at a fast pace and took the team beyond 200 runs.

During this innings, Virat was looking in great form and he also hit some excellent shots. He also got a lease of life but apart from this he did not appear to be troubled in any way throughout the innings. Then on the last ball of the day, off-spinner Glenn Phillips surprised the entire Chinnaswamy Stadium and Team India by dismissing Virat. Lightly touching Virat's bat, the ball went into the gloves of the wicketkeeper. Even DRS could not save Virat and his hard work of about 2 hours went in vain. He was out after scoring 70 runs and thus the chance to score a century slipped from his hands.

Kohli's fitness and agility became the reason

As much as the tight bowling of Phillips and the alertness of keeper Tom Blundell played a role in Virat's wicket, Virat's own agility also played an equal role. This may be shocking but it is true to some extent. Actually, Virat played the fourth ball of the last over towards third man and ran for runs. Sarfaraz wanted to stop at just one run but Kohli showed agility and called him for the second run also. When Kohli felt in danger of being run out, he dived and was saved from being run out but then he was out within the next 2 balls. Now if Kohli had stopped for just one run, perhaps he would not have come on strike again and perhaps he would not have even been out on the last ball.

Also, due to the dive for the second run, his gloves got damaged and he had to ask for new gloves. This break in the last over of the day somehow spoiled Kohli's rhythm and his focus and perhaps due to this he got out while trying to play the last ball. Even though Kohli was out, before that he along with Sarfaraz Khan made a quick partnership of 136 runs for the third wicket, which took Team India to 231 runs at the stumps. Team India is still 125 runs behind and Sarfaraz Khan will come out to take the innings forward on the fourth day.
