Shakib Al Hasan, the most successful cricketer in the history of Bangladesh cricket and one of the best all-rounders in the world, seems to be ending his Test career even before playing his last match. Shakib Al Hasan has withdrawn his name from the first match of the Test series starting against South Africa. Shakib was selected in the squad for this test match starting from October 21 in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh. Shakib had expressed his desire to retire from his home ground and due to this he got a chance in the first test but due to the protests against him in Dhaka, Shakib has withdrawn his name from the test. With this, Shakib's Test career seems to be ending without even taking the field.

Former captain Shakib Al Hasan, who was present with the Bangladesh team that toured India last month, had then announced that he was ending his Test career. He had also revealed at that time that he wanted to play his last Test on his home ground but if there would be any threat to his safety upon his return to Bangladesh or if there would be an attempt to arrest him, then the Kanpur Test would prove to be his last. Shakib took part in the Kanpur Test, after which he went to America instead of going to Bangladesh.

Withdrawal of name due to protest in Dhaka

This boosted Shakib's hopes of playing his last Test at home, but after the announcement of the squad, protests against him started in Dhaka. During this time, while returning from New York on Wednesday, he was stopped in Dubai. Now on Friday, the Chief Selector of Bangladesh Cricket Board made it clear that Shakib will not be available for this test. Murder case against Shakib

Protests have been going on in Bangladesh against Shakib Al Hasan for the last 2 months. This protest started after August 5, when Sheikh Hasina's government was overthrown in Bangladesh. Shakib was an MP in this Awami League Party government, but Shakib's silence in the violence during the student movement had instigated the agitators. Not only this, after the overthrow of the government, a case of murder was registered against about 150 people including Shakib and since then the sword of arrest was hanging over him.
