The way West Indies started the T20 series against Sri Lanka, it did not end the same for them. West Indies started by winning the first T20. But, after that Sri Lanka defeated them in the next two T20s and won the 3-match series 2-1. The way Sri Lanka defeated West Indies in the last T20 played in Dambulla, the cricket fans enjoyed it not only by sitting in the stadium but also by climbing the trees. Kusal Mendis, who hit 80 sixes, did the work of winning the last T20 and putting the series in Sri Lanka's kitty.
By the way, in the last T20, not one but two Kusals helped West Indies towards defeat. Both Kusals remained unbeaten till the end and died after leading the team to victory. Both wrote the script of their respective half-centuries. We are talking about Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera, between whom there was a match-winning partnership of 106 runs in the last T20.
Sri Lanka chased the target of 163 runs set by West Indies in the 18th over itself. West Indies fielded 6 bowlers against Sri Lanka, but they were successful in taking only one wicket. This wicket of Sri Lanka fell in the form of Pathum Nissanka, who was dismissed by West Indies spinner Moti. After that, Kusal Mendis and Kusal Perera together helped the team cross the threshold of victory.
Kusal Mendis remained unbeaten after scoring 68 runs on 50 balls, which included 7 fours and 1 six. With this one six, the number of sixes of Kusal Mendis in T20 International increased to 80. With this figure, he is also the batsman from Sri Lanka who has hit most sixes in T20 International. Whereas, Kusal Perera remained unbeaten after scoring 55 runs on 36 balls. Thanks to the strong batting of both, Sri Lanka won the third T20 against West Indies by 9 wickets.
Since the third and last T20 was the decider of the series, a huge crowd gathered in the stadium to watch it. Many cricket fans even climbed the trees near the cricket ground of Dambulla to watch the match. Everyone enjoyed seeing their team win the T20 series against West Indies.
