Team India announced for IND vs NZ ODI series, decision on captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur

On one hand, the Test series between India and New Zealand has started in Bengaluru, while on the other hand, Team India has been announced for the ODI series to be held soon between these two countries. A 3-match ODI series is to be held between the women's teams of India and New Zealand at the end of this month, for which Team India was announced. The biggest decision in this has been taken on the captaincy of Harmanpreet Kaur. After Team India's crushing defeat in the T20 World Cup, there was a demand to remove Harmanpreet but the selection committee has expressed confidence in him only. Along with this, there have also been indications that the team can take the field in the ODI World Cup to be held next year under his captaincy.

Under the captaincy of Harmanpreet, Team India was eliminated from the group stage in the Women's T20 World Cup 2024 being played in UAE. India had to face defeat from New Zealand and Australia, due to which the team failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Since then, apart from captaincy, there were demands to take action against many players but the Senior Women's Selection Committee has refused to take any such step. Considering the ODI World Cup to be held in India next year, this seemed like the right opportunity for change, but this decision indicates that Harmanpreet will lead the team in the World Cup also.

These players are out of the series

The selection committee has retained most of the same players in the squad who were part of the recent T20 World Cup. However, star all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar has been rested from this series, while young wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh has been kept out of this series due to her 12th board exam. Leg spinner Asha Shobhana, who was injured during the World Cup, is not fully fit yet and hence she too will not play in this series.

In place of Richa, Yastika Bhatia will take charge of the wicket in this series. However, young wicketkeeper Uma Chhetri has also been selected for the series. Apart from them, top order batsmen Dayalan Hemlata, Saima Thakor, Tejal Hasanbis and Sayali Satgare have also been selected in the squad. The 3 ODI match series will start from October 24, for which the Kiwi team will reach India directly from UAE. The series matches will be played on 24, 27 and 29 October. All these three matches will be played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
