After smashing 297 runs at an average of 99 and finishing as the top run-scorer of the U19 Women's T20 World Cup on South African soil, Shweta Sehrawat started taking baby steps in her career.
With the next edition of the tournament to be held next year in January in Malaysia, the youngster is still finding ways to make a name for herself and climb up the ladder. It was after UP Warriorz picked her for Rs 40 lakh in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 that she took a giant leap. Playing alongside Alyssa Healy, who has won a plethora of trophies for Australia over the last decade, came as a privilege.
Sehrawat also had a chance to rub shoulders with Grace Harris and Tahlia McGrath, two of the batting powerhouses for Australia in international cricket. She also had a chance to interact with McGrath when India A toured Australia for a multi-format series. "I have talked to Grace Harris a lot about batting. Recently, I also had a chat with Tahlia McGrath when we played against Australia A. I also spoke to her about batting, and she explained a lot of points as well," Sehrawat said. The Indian dream Shweta Sehrawat is looking forward to the upcoming domestic season. Courtesy: PTI Sehrawat had her fair share of challenges on the Australia tour. In the T20 series, she scored only 38 runs from three games, followed by scores of 1, 11 and 0 in the ODIs. In the unofficial Test, she made a patient 40 in the first innings before falling cheaply in the second. "First challenge is food. Match conditions were different there as the pitches, outfield and conditions, were different there. These factors played a part," Sehrawat said. Sehrawat, however, hasn't lost out on hopes of breaking into the national team for the ODI World Cup next year on Indian soil. "I am trying to give my best in domestic cricket, perform well there and make my place in the national team," Sehrawat said.
