Although the international cricket season is going on and the excitement of Test cricket continues, at the same time preparations for the next season of IPL are also going on. All 10 franchises are not only working on retaining the players, but are also making major changes in their coaching staff. After the appointment of new head coaches in Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians, now Delhi Capitals is also taking a similar step. After removing former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, Delhi Capitals is looking for a new head coach and the name of former Indian all-rounder Hemang Badani is leading in this race. Former left-handed batsman Badani has earlier also worked in the coaching staff of different teams in IPL.

BCCI had banned him, now he will become a coach

According to PTI report, sources related to IPL have claimed that Delhi Capitals is considering only Indian names for its coaching staff and in this case, Hemang Badani's name is at the forefront for the role of head coach. Badani, who played 44 international matches for India, was earlier a part of Brian Lara's coaching staff at Sunrisers Hyderabad, where apart from fielding coach, he was also working as a scout.

The former experienced batsman from Tamil Nadu, who was a part of the Indian team in the 2003 World Cup, was banned by the BCCI. The reason for this was his joining the Indian Cricket League (ICL). Before the start of IPL in 2008, Zee Network had started ICL, in which players from all over the world including India and Pakistan participated. Badani also became a part of Chennai Superstars in this league. BCCI had banned players participating in ICL. However, in 2009, the ban was lifted and he was given a chance to make a comeback and then Badani was bought by Chennai Super Kings in 2010.

Munaf Patel also in the race

Along with Badani, the name of former Team India fast bowler Munaf Patel has also come up. Munaf, who was an important part of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 2011, can be selected for the role of bowling coach and not head coach. Delhi Capitals had removed Ricky Ponting from the post of coach only after the last season. Ponting became the head coach of the team in 2018 and under his leadership the team reached the final for the first time in 2020. However, despite 7 seasons, Ponting could not lead the team to the title, due to which it was now decided to remove him.
