Australia's captain Pat Cummins opened up about one of the few things that haven't been ticked off in his well-decorated captaincy record.
He revealed that winning a Test series against India is 'close to the only thing' that hasn't been fulfilled yet. The 31-year-old is gearing up to lead Australia for the five-match Test series vs India, starting in November. Cummins has captained Australia in only three Test matches against India and managed a victory in just one match. However, that sole match was the all-important ICC World Test Championship final in 2023. Australia beat India in the final by 209 runs to lift the 2nd edition of the ICC World Test Championship title in July last year. "I was thinking about it the other day. It's close to the only thing I haven't really ticked off. I've not beaten India in a Test series yet. A few of the guys have, but I haven't," Cummins said during an event, as quoted by The Sydney Morning Herald. The Australian captain lost two encounters as the captain of the Australian side in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series. Cummins captaincy record Cummins participated in the Border Gavaskar Trophy series when Australia toured India in 2017. He boasts of 50 wickets against India in 13 matches and was the leading wicket-taker in the 2020-21 BGT series in Australia with 21 wickets. During India's last tour to Australia, Tim Paine was the captain of the side as they suffered a 1-2 series loss. Cummins will have a huge responsibility on his shoulders as Australia's last Test series win against India was in 2014. Ever since, India won two series at home and two series in Australia. "I was up for captaincy beforeI even I knew I was myself" Cummins, who was given the captaincy in late 2021, opened up about his leadership responsibility and how he eased into the role. "My whole life, you look up to the Australian captain and you know who it is, and you're like 'oh wow, they're so accomplished, and they must have all their shit together. And then suddenly when you are captain, you're like 'oh, I'm going to be that type of person. In the initial phases, it was awesome that I had loads of support, and those who had to make the decision chose me and thought I was up for it before I even knew I was myself, I suppose."
