Rishabh Pant has made an astounding return to international cricket after a lengthy lay-off following an accident. The Indian player took part in the T20 World Cup for India, but the Bangladesh Tests marked his return to the longest format of the game.
Pant has showcased his mettle in the Tests very quickly, scoring a hundred in the recently concluded series against Bangladesh. The southpaw has also been picked for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand. Although there were concerns over his wicketkeeping agility following the multitude of injuries he suffered during the mishap, Pant has looked excellent behind the stumps. And current Delhi Capitals fielding coach Biju George spoke highly about the India wicketkeeper in an exclusive chat with MyKhel. MyKhel had the opportunity to talk with George at his training centre in Trivandrum and the Delhi Capitals coach shared his time with Pant at the time in IPL 2024, as he thinks the southpaw looks the same as his initial days. "The first time I saw Rishabh was when he was in the U19 India camp. He was very thin and agile and he has got a gymnastics background. Post-injury, I see the same Rishabh Pant, the 19-year-old kid, very eager, doing stuff and he looks the same." Along with that, George also reveals that Pant always prefers intense training sessions. Also, he thinks Pant's gymnastics background plays a key part in his recovery and training regime. "He looks much stronger, fitter and leaner. When he comes for a session, whether he's facing throwdowns or keeping, he says, no fancy stuff for me. I want only hard sessions. And his gymnastics background has certainly helped him." On staying at DC Along with Rishabh Pant, George also gave a hint on his future with Delhi Capitals. George has been a mainstay with Delhi the franchise and has honed his role as fielding coach for both of their teams in the IPL and WPL. But the Kerala-born coach is unsure whether he will be at the DC dugout next year. He is sure to be part of the WPL campaign but lacks an idea of his IPL status at the franchise. "I don't know. My contract runs out with Delhi. I am certainly going to be part of the WPL but not sure about the IPL."
