Nasser Hussain has claimed that England would have been happy seeing Pakistan drop star batter Babar Azam for the remaining 2 Tests of the series on October 13, Sunday.
In a shock decision, the Pakistan cricket board decided to make the big call of sacking Babar, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah from the squad for the remainder of the series. ,accumulating just 366 runs at an underwhelming average of 20.33. His highest score during this period was 41, achieved against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Babar has now gone 18 innings without a half-century, with his last notable performance coming on December 26, 2022, when he scored 161 on Day 1 of the first Test against New Zealand in Karachi. His struggles continued during Pakistan's crushing loss in the first Test against Multan, where he managed only 30 and 5 in two innings, extending his disappointing run of form. Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Hussain said that while Babar may be out of form at the moment, batters like him always find a way of scoring runs when the pressure is on. The former cricketer suggested that England would turn up for the second Test on October 15 knowing that they would play the hosts, who will be without their star batter. "As for Pakistan, with their new selection panel, leaving out Babar Azam, I think England won't mind that at all. He's a bit out of nick at the moment, but guys like him generally find a way of scoring runs when the pressure's on. If I were in England's shoes, I'd be pretty relaxed about turning up on Tuesday and finding a Pakistan team without their star batsman," said Hussain. Pakistan simply have to play better this week Hussain said that Pakistan will need to play well this week and they currently look like a side who can't even take 10 wickets in an innings. "The bottom line, though, is that Pakistan simply have to play better this week. They didn't look like taking 10 wickets in the first Test, let alone 20. The ball is in their court. We're about to find out whether they're good enough to stop England winning the series with a game to spare," said Hussain.
