Former India opener Sanjay Manjrekar has made a massive claim on the star duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma he claimed that both are not in their prime.
Both Rohit and Virat will be part of the Indian team for the upcoming Test series against New Zealand starting on Wednesday (Oct 16), however, according to Manjrekar, both are in the twilight of their careers. He also reckons Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill will need to rise on the occasion and help India win matches. Virat, Rohit not in their prime? "It might be a tough one. Virat and Rohit, both are not in their prime, they are not at the peak of their powers to be fair and others like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have to rise to the occasion. Rishabh Pant is the only one that I feel is in his prime and a very important player," Manjrekar said while speaking on Sportify with PRG. Virat had a tough T20 World Cup for India and only delivered in the final while his form at times has been a big topic of debate. He went more than 1000 days without an international hundred between 2019 and 2022 which raised question marks on his career. Since 2020 he has scored two hundreds in the Test format, the same period during which Joe Root has amassed 18 tons.   The story has not been different for Rohit but has contributed modestly to the national side. Since 2020 Rohit has scored 2038 runs at an average of 41.59 with six hundreds and seven fifties. India prepare for New Zealand Test series Knowing a whitewash against New Zealand could see India's World Test Championship (WTC) final qualification all but sealed, India will look to bank on the services of Virat and Rohit. The series starting on Wednesday (Oct 16) will serve as a huge opportunity for the duo to showcase they are still in their best touch. India have shown faith in the same side that beat Bangladesh 2-0 while Mohammed Shami still remains the notable absentee.
