Suryakumar Yadav is leading the Indian team in the ongoing T20I series against Bangladesh. Under him, the team has already clinched the series 2-0, with the third T20I scheduled on October 12. Just after the series, the India T20I captain might straightaway walk into the Mumbai team for their second Ranji Trophy game against Maharashtra.
Mumbai are the defending champions and they will tussle against Maharashtra in the second game, starting from October 18. Suryakumar has made himself available for the selection and if things go well, he will be featuring for Mumbai in the domestic game.   "He has informed the MCA that he will be part of the Ranji Trophy team which will play against Maharashtra," a source in the MCA confirmed as quoted by The Indian Express. The Ranji Trophy is divided into two phases this season with Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (T20) and Vijay Hazare Trophy (50 overs) sandwiched between the tight schedule. The move came keeping in consideration the non-conducive north India weather and to reduce the workload on players. Gap between matches increased in Ranji Trophy It is worth noting that cricketers like Shardul Thakur and former cricketer Rahul Dravid have highlighted the intense workload on the players. They quipped that the three-day gap between matches is quite less for recovery time. The BCCI, with the new season, has decided to keep a four-day window between each Ranji game of a particular team.   "If boys keep playing like this for two more seasons, there will be a lot of injuries across the country. Next year, they [the BCCI] have to re-look at it, and give more [of a] break. When I remember playing Ranji Trophy back in the day, good seven to eight years back, [the] first three games used to have [a] three-day break, and then it was [a] four-day break, and knockouts were played [with] five-day breaks," Thakur had said.
