Root recently went past Alastair Cook to become the leading run-scorer for England in the longest format of the game. The veteran completed the feat on Day 3.

Cook lauded Root, calling him the greatest English batter and backed him to dethrone Sachin Tendulkar from the top spot in the list of highest run-getters in five-day format.

Joe has been the best performer in Test cricket over the last three-four years, with the likes of Kane Williamson, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli lagging behind.

His current tally of hundreds in red-ball cricket is 35 and the rate at which he is going at the moment, the veteran is likely to touch the 40-ton mark in a few months.
