India beat Bangladesh by 86 runs in the second T20I on Wednesday (Oct 9) in New Delhi to take a 2-0 lead in the three-match series. Chasing a mammoth 222, Bangladesh were never in the hunt and could manage only 135/9 in 20 overs.
Bangladesh started the chase poorly while going for runs and lost three wickets inside powerplay, once each to Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar. They finished the first six overs at 43/3. They lost four more wickets before 100 runs on the board in the 14 overs with Nitish Reddy, Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag and Mayank Yadav taking one wicket each and one being a run out.  Needing more than 120 runs in the last six overs or so, Mahmudullah played some shots and scored 41 off 39 but it was too little too late. Earlier, India lost the toss in New Delhi and was asked to bat first by Bangladesh. The decision proved right initially as India finished the powerplay at 45/3 with both openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as well as skipper Suryakumar Yadav back in the dressing room. Rinku then paired up with Nitish Kumar Reddy and the duo added 108 runs for the fourth wicket in just eight overs. The partnership was broken by Mustafizur Rahman who dismissed Reddy in the 14th over after the batter had scored 74 off 32 balls with four fours and seven sixes. Rinku (53 off 29) was next to fall in the 17th over but good hitting by Hardik Pandya (32 off 19) and Riyan Parag (15 off 6) took India past 200. Bangladesh spinner Rishad took three wickets in the last over as India finished at 221/9 in their 20 overs. Indian batters were severe on all opposition bowlers except Taskin Ahmed who finished at 2/16 in his four overs. Among others, Rishad gave 55 runs for his three wickets, Tanzim was hit for 50 runs for his two wickets while veteran pacer Mustafizur gave away 36 runs for his two wickets.
