After that, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah released the conditions for retaining players for all 10 teams ahead of the 2025 season.

He will be considered an uncapped player in the auction. He should not be included in the central contract of BCCI. It is being told that this rule will apply only to Indian players. All this fits Dhoni perfectly. Dhoni last played for India in July 2019. After this he announced his retirement. It has been exactly five years since he played international matches (Test, ODI and T20). At present he is not even under the contract of BCCI. The rules have been changed in this phase.
