Indian cricket team's ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma has retired from T-20 format, but his childhood coach Dinesh Lad has given a statement which has surprised and upset the Indian cricket fans. Lad spoke openly about Rohit's retirement from Test cricket and ODI matches and said that he can retire from Test cricket after the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025.

Dinesh told Dainik Jagran, “I am not saying that he will leave the Test format after the final of the World Test Championship. However, due to his increasing age, there is a possibility of him saying goodbye to this format. It seems that He may announce his retirement from Test cricket to remain fit for the fifty-over format. I am sure Rohit will play the 2027 ODI World Cup.

This statement of Rohit's coach is scaring the fans because perhaps the fans are not yet ready for Rohit's Test retirement and if Rohit really retires after the World Test Championship final, then it will be a big shock for the fans. Another question regarding Rohit is what is he thinking about the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 to be held in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

The Indian team had lost to Australia in the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, after which there were speculations that Rohit might not play till the 2027 World Cup. The right-handed batsman will be 40 years old in the 2027 World Cup. If Rohit is selected for this mega event, he will become the oldest player of the Indian national cricket team to play an ODI match in history.

It is not hidden from anyone that Rohit wants to win the ODI World Cup. He was not selected in the title-winning campaign in 2011. He was a part of the team in 2015 and 2019, but India lost in the semi-finals. Rohit holds the record for scoring most centuries in a single edition of the ODI World Cup with 5 centuries in 2019. He is also the fourth-highest run-scorer in the history of the tournament, with 1575 runs in 28 matches at an average of 60.57, including seven centuries.
