In a thrilling development for cricket fans, Team India will participate in the 2024 Hong Kong Sixes tournament for the first time since 2012. The announcement was made by Hong Kong Cricket's official account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), igniting excitement among supporters of the sport.
The Hong Kong Sixes, first introduced in 1992, gained immense popularity in the early 2000s, with cricketing legends such as Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, MS Dhoni, and Shoaib Malik among the star players who graced the tournament. A fast-paced, action-packed format, the Sixes features six-a-side matches with five-over innings, making it one of the most thrilling forms of cricket. However, after the last edition in 2017, the tournament was shelved due to a lack of sponsorship. With its resurgence in 2024, 12 teams, including the hosts, will battle it out for glory. The teams will be divided into two groups, with South Africa entering as defending champions after their dramatic two-wicket victory over Pakistan in the 2017 final, marking their fifth title.
